The Balmoral and downtown New OrleansPosted by Karen Politte (Conway, United States) on 9 February 2012 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio. After having dumped (much to our relief) our excess travelling weight in our cabin - Jason and I ventured up on deck around 3:45PM to watch the spectacle of our very first "sailaway" - where a festive atmosphere on Lido deck (the "party" deck) is fostered as the cruise ship leaves port for it's trip. Ported as our companion this day was a Fred Olsen cruise ship named - ironically, given that I'm Scottish - The Balmoral! I had read on the Port of New Orleans website in months prior that a ship by the name of Balmoral was to be in port this day, and sure enough - there it was! Downtown New Orleans sits to the left, basking in the sunny, humid Louisiana January afternoon. My first Color Spotlight - "Roll On". You can find my husband Jason's photoblog at Shutter Fodder. Check it out!

@Luke: thanks Luke! @Loukas: LOL.....no, the Panama flag is on OUR ship, the Elation (it sails from a mast on the aft of the ship) - I don't know where the Balmoral is registered. All of Carnival's ships are registered in Panama. @Nigel: I'm telling you........need. Another. Cruise. @Doug: thanks Doug! @Hiro: thank you!!
